USA for UNFPA Statement on Racist Violence in the United States

USA for UNFPA is heartbroken by the recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and too many before them. As an organization devoted to supporting societal change – so that every life is given value and every person can fulfill their potential – we recognize that these deaths are symptoms of systemic problems and of a national history that has ignored and violated the rights of African Americans.
We believe in ensuring the rights and safety of everyone, in all places, and in speaking up when those rights and that safety are infringed upon. Now is such a time.
We stand in solidarity with those seeking justice and calling for an end to white supremacy, racism, and systemic injustice and violence in the United States.
It is troubling that these events occur just as the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a disproportionate toll on communities of color. All too often we see a context of racism and discrimination manifest itself in negative health outcomes.
USA for UNFPA believes that black lives matter and that we must stand up for human rights. We believe it is critical at all levels to listen to people and communities of color and to elevate their voices. We remain committed to the health and dignity of all people and to removing all barriers to human rights.
